A great AAC expert is no longer amongst us

It is with great sadness that we have to inform you Mr. Willem van Boggelen, the founding father of Aircrete, passed away on 12 May 2021 at the age of 70. Willem has dedicated his entire life to the world of AAC. He was very well-respected within the global AAC industry and considered a leader and expert in the field of AAC and a visionary for panel technology and panel-based building solutions.

Graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Fluid Mechanics, Willem was the engineering drive and first-generation behind Aircrete’s successful presence in the global Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) market today. Willem’s involvement in the AAC industry started over 50 years ago, back in the 70s. After 30 years at Dutch multinational Royal Dutch Stork, where Willem was leading the global AAC technology division, Willem founded Aircrete Europe in 2002. With his vision back then that the future of building materials is a modular, panel-based solution, he was a pioneer in the beginning of this century to uniquely continue to develop the so-called Flat-Cake technology under the Aircrete brand. That strategic decision created the important foundation for Aircrete Europe to become the global leader in AAC panel technology today.

It is extremely sad and very hard to accept that Willem has left us way too young. At the same time, we are very proud of his achievements and grateful to have known and worked side by side with a fantastic human being, an inspiring leader and a remarkable engineer. The man who taught us to be creative and always think in solutions, who was always honest and sincere and the man who never gave up is no longer amongst us, but he will live on in our memories and we will continue to build and grow Aircrete on the foundations that he laid.

Rest in peace Chairman,

The Aircrete Family
